Car crashes into Middletown Walmart on Monday morning - WDRB

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A car crashed into a Walmart on Shelbyville Road in Middletown early Monday morning.

The car reportedly rammed into the wine and spirit section of the store around 4:12 a.m. Monday morning.

Middletown Police Chief Robert Herman described the incident as a "mental crisis," prompting the huge police and fire presence on the property.

LMPD Crisis Negotiators were called in to speak with the subject.

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said the subject made multiple attempts to put the vehicle in reverse and drive out, but LMPD SWAT/HNT were able to successfully remove the subject without incident.

The subject was then transferred to University Hospital for an involuntary hospitalization.

The crash caused thousands of dollars in damages, and a small fire did break out due to the crash that was controlled by fire officials.

No injuries were reported, and the subject's name has not been released.
