Police engage in brief stand-off with driver of car that crashed into Middletown Walmart
THOSE STORIES IN JUST A MOMENT. BUT FIRST, WE DO HAVE BREAKING NEWS RIGHT NOW. YEAH, WE ARE FOLLOWING WHAT IS APPEARS TO BE A VEHICLE CRASH INTO THE WALMART ON SHELBYVILLE ROAD. OUR MADISON ELLIOTT IS LIVE THERE THIS MORNING AND SHE IS FOLLOWING THE LATEST MATT MADISON. GOOD MORNING CARRIE AND ALEX. SO WE WERE DRIVING AROUND THIS AREA THIS MORNING AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET A PICTURE OF WHAT DOES APPEAR OF A CAR THAT MIGHT HAVE CRASHED INTO THE BUILDING, BUT WE’RE SO FAR AWAY, IT’S REALLY HARD TO SEE WHAT’S GOING ON BECAUSE POLICE HAVE BLOCKED OFF A LOT OF THIS AREA. BUT IF I STEP OUT OF THE WAY, WE CAN ZOOM IN JUST A LITTLE BIT TO SHOW YOU WHAT WE’RE SEEING. AGAIN, WE’RE PUSHED PRETTY FAR BACK, BUT THERE IS A LARGE POLICE PRESENCE. WE SEE FIRE TRUCKS, WE SEE SWAT. AND AGAIN, WE SEE A LOT OF COP CARS. THIS IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE WALMART. AND THERE’S A TARGET HERE AS WELL. SO THIS IS A PRETTY BIG SHOPPING AREA. WE KNOW NEITHER STORES THOUGH ARE OPEN RIGHT NOW AS WE’RE JUST A LITTLE AFTER 6 A.M., SO WE’RE NOT EXACTLY SURE WHAT HAPPENED HERE. BUT AGAIN, WE WERE ABLE TO GET SOMEWHAT OF A VISUAL, AND IT DID APPEAR AS IF THERE WAS A CAR THAT HAD CRASHED INTO THE BUILDING. SO WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THIS AGAIN. POLICE HAVE SET A STAGING AREA FOR MEDIA, SO WE’RE HOPING THAT MEANS THAT THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE A PIO OUT HERE ON SCENE SOMETIME SOON. WHO CAN TALK TO US AND TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON. WE HAVE REACHED OUT TO POLICE FOR MORE INFORMATION AND WE’RE JUST WAITING TO HEAR BACK. WE DID JUST HEAR THAT CAR HONK. IT LOOKS LIKE POLICE ARE SIGNALING FOR SOMEBODY TO KIND OF LEAVE THE AREA BECAUSE THEY’RE TRYING TO KEEP THIS AREA CLEAN RIGHT NOW, AND PEOPLE AWAY FROM IT AS THEY FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. Police engage in brief stand-off with driver of car that crashed into Middletown Walmart
There was a large police presence at a shopping center in Middletown Monday morning after a car crashed into the Walmart there.WLKY was on the scene where several Louisville Metro and Middletown Police could be seen blocking off the area where Walmart and Target are located.LMPD said Eighth Division officers were dispatched to assist Middletown Police on a barricaded person inside a vehicle.They said that it had crashed into the liquor store of the Walmart there.Officers said they made contact with the person who refused to get out of the vehicle before putting it in reverse and trying to drive out.SWAT units called to the scene were able to successfully remove them without further incident.Neither store was open for business during the incident.A little after 7 a.m., the scene began to clear out.
