WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Wilson County woman who ordered a TV from Walmart only to have it taken away by who she says was the delivery driver is now getting her money back.
It's so bizarre. Christina Shearer says a delivery driver and another man stole her Walmart TV from in front of her Old Hickory home. It was all captured on her Ring camera.
She says she tried for weeks to get Walmart to do something about it, but they didn’t until now. Shearer says Walmart has decided to give her a refund and a $100 gift card.
She says she decided to get the refund because Walmart told her the store would be using a random delivery service again and she didn’t trust it because that’s what she says got her into this mess in the first place.
"I asked her, if I decided to get the TV, can I go pick it up instead of having it shipped," Shearer said. "And what really shook me was when the said once you make the order, they don't pick who delivers, it's automatic. It's picked at random who delivers. As soon as she told me that I said, 'You know what, I'll just take the money back.'"
Shearer said she contacted Walmart over and over again for weeks and was given no answers as to how she could get reimbursed for her stolen TV.
"They just kept transferring me and transferring me and transferring me, and it ended up, they told me once the package is delivered it's out of their hands," Shearer said. "They can't do anything about it."
Shearer adds Walmart advised her to try seek a dispute with her bank instead of taking blame for the incident.
"I kept asking for the policy and asking what am I supposed to do now and they just kept telling me, go to your bank and dispute it," Shearer said. "And I'm just like, 'That's not fair.'"
However, when FOX 17 News' story aired, things changed and Walmart did end up doing something about it.
Shearer says she is relieved, but hopes this does not happen to anyone else.
"The whole situation was just funny now that you think about it," Shearer said. "I had a friend tell me 'You know, this is actually pretty genius.' And I was like, 'Yeah, it's genius, but you just got to make sure you don't get caught on a camera...' So we were kind of laughing about that."
FOX 17 News reached out to Walmart asking if they changed their policy and how to make sure this does not happen again. We still have not received a response on the matter.
Roadie, a subsidiary of UPS that helped get Shearer's TV delivered, tells FOX 17 News that they have since opened an investigation on the matter. In the meantime, the Wilson County Sheriff's Office is pursuing theft charges.
