Louisville police standoff in Outer Loop shuts down Walmart, other local businesses - WDRB

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Walmart store in Outer Loop was put on lockdown for about two hours Sunday afternoon due to a standoff with Louisville Metro Police in a parking lot close to the building.

John Bradley, a spokesperson for LMPD, said officers responded to the 100 block of Outer Loop around 11 a.m. on a report of a stolen vehicle.

Officers tried to detain the vehicle and suspect but the driver of the vehicle tried to flee and hit at least two LMPD vehicles which caused "minor to moderate damage."

Police said the suspect then barricaded himself inside the vehicle and SWAT was called which eventually was able to get the suspect out of the vehicle.

A WDRB photographer on the scene said a perimeter was made on the grocery side of the Walmart to help move people out. The Walmart and other businesses were on lockdown during the standoff.

LMPD's 3rd Division has the suspect in custody but their identity is unknown at this time.

Police said no one was injured and no shots were ever fired. There is no danger to the public.
