EPD: Walmart shooter held employees at gunpoint - Courier & Press

EVANSVILLE — The Evansville Police Department said the alleged gunman who opened fire inside the West Side Walmart Thursday night left a suicide note at his home.

Police identified the shooter as 25-year-old Ronald Ray Mosley II, a former Walmart employee who was charged with assaulting four people in the store last year.

Police shot and killed Mosley after he allegedly shot a Walmart employee in the head and fired at responding officers. The employee is recovering in the hospital, according to EPD spokeswoman Sgt. Anna Gray.

At a Friday afternoon news conference, EPD Chief Billy Bolin said Mosley "absolutely planned to die last night," citing the suicide note detectives recovered.

"It's really sad when you read that note and that somebody is in that state, and at the same time, it makes you angry," Bolin said.

EPD spokeswoman Sgt. Anna Gray said Mosley entered the store just after 9:50 p.m. armed with a 9mm handgun. He ordered employees in a break room to line up against a wall and held them at gunpoint, Gray said.

Mosley shot the female Walmart employee in the head, according to police. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was carried to safety by her coworkers, who used a shirt to apply pressure to her wound.

Bolin said the employees were "heroes."

In 911 call audio obtained by the Courier & Press, Walmart employees can be heard pleading with dispatchers to send help.

“Oh my god I need an ambulance," one caller said. "She was shot in the face. She was shot in the face.”

"Are you with her?" the dispatcher responded.

“Yes, yes.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
