Mississippi Walmart put on lockdown after man with rifle walks in, police say - FOX13 Memphis

SENATOBIA, Miss. — A Mississippi Walmart was put on lockdown for a brief time Saturday afternoon after a man walked in with a rifle slung over his shoulders, according to the Senatobia Police Department.

Police said the man walked into the Senatobia Walmart around 12:30 p.m. with the rifle on his shoulder, purchased some dog food and left.

The incident was reported to police and the Walmart was put on lockdown until officers could verify that the scene was safe, police said.

Senatobia Police were able to identify the man and made contact with him.

Though no charges have been announced at this time, police said they are continuing to investigate the incident.

Senatobia Police released the following statement shortly after contacting the man who walked into Walmart with the rifle.

“The Senatobia Police Department supports the lawful exercise of second amendment rights. We do ask everyone to exercise good judgement and to please understand that the surrounding circumstances could cause alarm by the general public in light of recent mass shootings at grocery stores.”
