Applications open for Walmart expo - Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Walmart Inc. is now taking applications for its eighth annual Open Call event, in which entrepreneurs hoping to get their products on the company's store shelves meet with Walmart buyers.

The deadline to apply is April 30, the company said Tuesday. The event will be held June 30 and, like last year, the pitch meetings will be held virtually.

The Bentonville-based retailer is looking for businesses with products made, grown or assembled in the U.S. Outcomes of the meetings can include having items placed on shelves at Walmart and Sam's Club stores nationwide; distributed in a few stores; or listed on Walmart.com and Samsclub.com.

And some businesses are invited to work with Walmart on scaling their products or otherwise preparing them for market.

Open Call began in 2014 as part of a commitment Walmart made in 2013 to invest $250 billion over 20 years in products made or sourced in the U.S.

Walmart increased that commitment on March 3 when it pledged to spend another $350 billion over the next 10 years on U.S. goods. The company estimates the funds will create more than 750,000 jobs.
