More than 6,000 pounds of sausage and turkey patties sold at Walmart stores are being recalled because of possible salmonella contamination, federal health official said.
The ready-to-eat pork and turkey sausage patty items are distributed by George’s Prepared Foods, a Caryville, Tennessee company and sold in Walmart stores under the Great Value brand, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a statement announcing the recall on Friday.
The following products should either be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased:
- 24.92-oz. packages containing “Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties” with use by date of 10/16/19 and lot code 1091971894.
- 24.92-oz. packages containing “Great Value Fully Cooked Original Breakfast Turkey Patties” with use by date of 10/24/19 and lot code 1171971897.
- 35.6-oz. packages containing “Family Size Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties” with use by date of 11/03/19 and lot code 1271972894 or use by date 11/05/19 and lot code 1291972894.
The products have establishment number “EST. M2206T or P-2260T” printed on the package and were shipped to stores across the country.
George’s third-party cold storage facility mistakenly shipped the ready-to-eat products to stores. Now, health officials are concerned that customers might have the meat either in their refrigerators or freezers.
Though there have been no reports of illnesses, the meat should not be eaten.
Salmonella most commonly leads to diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps 12 to 72 hours after being exposed to the bacteria. Most people recover in four to seven days but older adults, infants, and people with weakened immune systems could become seriously ill, officials said.
