A recall of ibuprofen for infants has been expanded over concerns that affected medications could contain dangerously high concentrations of the drug.
The recall, announced by Tris Pharma Inc. in December for medication sold at CVS, Walmart and Family Dollar stores, was expanded this week to include more products sold at CVS and Walmart.
The Infants' Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, sold under the CVS Health brand in 0.5 and 1.0-ounce bottles and as "Equate" at Walmart in a 1.0-ounce bottle, are the latest products affected by this recall.
Previously, the ibuprofen was packaged in 0.5-ounce bottles at CVS, Walmart and Family Dollar stores nationwide.
The recall states that some infants who may be more susceptible to a higher potency level of drug, may be more vulnerable to permanent NSAID-associated renal injury.
Symptoms of high exposure to ibuprofen in infants include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, or more rarely, diarrhea. Tinnitus, headache and gastrointestinal bleeding are also possible adverse effects.
No serious adverse affects have been reported by consumers in connection with this recall to date.
Consumers with questions about the recall can call Tris Customer Service at 732-940-0358.
