Gunshots reported in Eastburg Walmart area - Pocono Record

EAST STROUDSBURG — Multiple police vehicles responded Monday evening to Pocono Plaza, between the Walmart and former Kmart building, after gunshots were reported, though there was no confirmation of anyone actually having been shot in that area.

The Monroe County Control Center received an initial report of a fight involving a gun between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Another report said shots were fired near the gas station/convenience store.

Witnesses said black males were involved and that a silver Buick fled from Lincoln Avenue toward Ridgeway Street after the shots were fired. Stroud Area Regional Police and state police vehicles arrived on scene.

Multiple police vehicles raced around to the rear of the former Kmart building, having received information that suspects may be in that area. A helicopter circled overhead.

Police vehicles blocked off a section of the Walmart parking lot and interviewed witnesses.

"This has to be the worst crime rate of any Walmart anywhere," one man told a passing motorist who had stopped to ask what was going on. "This is yet another shooting in the ghetto that's the Stroudsburgs."

There was no confirmation of anyone actually having been shot at that location and no ambulance was visible on scene. By 7:30 p.m. came a report of two people being in custody, but police were still investigating and had no further details available.
