Walmart is closing three store locations in Louisville next month due to "poor performance," according to a company spokesman.
It's the second grocery chain to announce a closure in Louisville this week.
On Monday, Fresh Market let customers know that it will close one of its two Louisville locations, at 10480 Shelbyville Road.
The three following Walmart locations will close by Aug. 10, according to spokeswoman Anne Hatfield:
- Walmart Supercenter, 1915 S. Hurstbourne Parkway in Forest Hills
- Walmart Neighborhood Market, 3101 Poplar Level Road near Audubon
- Walmart Neighborhood Market, 201 Blankenbaker Parkway in Middletown
The decision to close the stores was not an easy one, Hatfield said in a statement.
"We look forward to continuing to serve them at our other Louisville area locations and online at walmart.com," Hatfield added.
The Supercenter at 1915 S. Hurstbourne Parkway opened in 1988. The neighborhood markets on Poplar Level Road and Blankenbaker opened in 2007.
The Blankenbaker location is less than two miles from the soon-to-be-closed Fresh Market.

Approximately 385 Walmart associates will be affected by the changes at the three Walmart stores, Hatfield said. The company will attempt to relocate those employees to other Louisville locations.
Walmart pharmacists will work with customers to make sure their prescriptions are transferred to another location.
