Walmart employees in Virginia receive more than $16 million in cash bonuses

Walmart announced Thursday that more than 890,000 Walmart associates in the country are receiving a share of more than $560 million dollars in cash bonuses. In Virginia alone, associates will receive $16.6 million in cash bonuses.

The bonuses and the annual pay raise will be included in associates' paychecks they will receive Thursday.

Walmart announced in January that they plan to increase the starting wage of hourly employees to at least 11 dollars. They also plan on expanding maternity and parental leave benefits.

"Walmart is excited to show our appreciation and commitment to our associates in Virginia with these bonuses, which are another example of how Walmart continues to help them grow and succeed in the company," said Brent Rains, Walmart Regional Manager for North Carolina and Virginia.

There are currently 155 Walmart locations in Virginia.
