Augusta police outside Walmart in Augusta on Monday night.
Police say a person is in custody after a shot was fired inside the Augusta Walmart. A woman died outside the store around the same time, but police say she wasn’t fatally shot.
Augusta police said around 8 p.m. Monday a man, whose name hasn’t been released, fired a gun in the Dunkin Donuts in Walmart.
A father and son were buying groceries and said they saw an argument escalating between two men.
“About five seconds later, I heard a gunshot and then me and my dad just run. We dropped our food and we just ran,” Atlantis Veilleux said.
“I looked at my son and said, ‘If we hear a gunshot we run.’ We heard a gunshot, we started running,” Alain Veilleux said.
Police said no one was seriously injured from the gunshot, but it caused a lot of chaos inside and outside of the store.
Police told CBS 13 they’re working to figure out if a woman’s death outside the store was related, but said she did not die from a gunshot.
