The Walmart on Centerville Road near Elsmere held a "grand reopening" Friday morning to introduce, among other things, new interactive electronics displays.
The store, which never closed during the transformation, has been undergoing a remodel over the last few weeks.
The updated electronics department features lower interactive tables. The Centerville Road location is among the first in the area with the updated electronics look. The company is transitioning to this more modern style.
Other new features include an enhanced infants department with strollers at floor level for testing and easier access to everyday essentials like diapers and formula. The Walmart Pickup station is now conveniently located near front of the store, next to the MoneyCenter. Also updated were the tool and home improvement departments. The Centerville store now sells automotive tools and other items that aren't sold at other locations nearby.
The updates also included fresh paint and new floors and signage. The new, wider aisles are meant to improve navigation throughout the store.
Walmart, which had a fiscal year revenue of $486 billion, has 13 locations in Delaware. The company is engaged in a battle for retail supremacy with Amazon. While it amps up online retail efforts, improvements like at the Centerville Road store help modernize Walmart's brick and mortar locations.
