Police: Auburn woman stole 152 items from Walmart

An Auburn woman pushed an entire shopping cart of items past sales staff in Walmart, attempting to steal about $1,300 worth of merchandise, said the Auburn Police Department.

Melissa M. Boehmer, of 67 Wall St., was arrested around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 after Walmart employees stopped her. The 28-year-old had "a little bit of everything," in her shopping cart, said Police Chief Shawn Butler, from household items to clothing.

The store scanned the merchandise following the arrest to document the number of items stolen and how much they cost. Butler said Boehmer stole 152 separate items costing about $1,300 in total.

"She pushed it (the shopping cart) right out," he said. "You never know quite what they're thinking. She did pass all points of sale with the shopping cart, and was stopped shortly thereafter by Walmart employees."

Bulter said because Boehmer stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise, she is facing a fourth-degree grand larceny charge, which is a class E felony. Boehmer was issued an appearance ticket and will likely appear for her arraignment in Auburn City Court on Friday.

Boehmer has been arrested before for allegedly stealing. She was charged with petit larceny on July 22.
