UNDATED (CNN Newsource/WKRC) - Certain Walmart shoppers could potentially be entitled to as much as $500 as part of a class-action lawsuit settlement.
The company was initially sued back in 2022 for allegations that it had overcharged customers for certain products, including some "rollback" discounted items.
The lawsuit alleged that shoppers were deceptively led to think they were paying the lowered prices on certain sold-by-weight items at checkout. Some of these items included meats, poultry, and seafood. It also said that Walmart mislabeled the weight on certain bagged produce such as oranges, grapefruit, and tangerines by falsely advertising the weight as more than the actual weight, according to CNN.
Near the end of 2023, Walmart reached a settlement that would see them paying back $45 million to customers. In a statement released on Friday, a company spokesperson said that Walmart will continue to deny the allegations, but a settlement is "in the best interest of both parties."
"[Walmart] will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need. We still deny the allegations, however we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties," said Walmart in a statement to CNN.
To be eligible for cash payments, customers had to purchase certain goods bought between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024.
