Parents using the Jool Baby’s Nova Baby infant swings should stop allowing their infants to sleep in the swing as it poses an increased suffocation risk due to the product design.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the swing is marketed to be used as a sleeping device for infants, however it features an incline angle greater than 10 degrees. That angle is in violation of CPSC regulations and Safe Sleep for Babies Act and as such, a recall has been initiated.
Luckily for parents who bought the device you do not need to throw out the swing, but you should not allow your infant to sleep in it until a repair can be made. Owners of the recalled swing can contact Jool Baby to receive a free repair kit, which is supposed to correct the problem.
The infant swings are gray and measure about 28 inches long, 19 inches wide and 24 inches high, according to the recall. The swings feature a round aluminum base with music buttons on the front, a metal seat frame, a cloth seat with restraints and a headrest, and a canopy with hanging toys.
The swings were sold in Walmart stores nationwide and on the Walmart website. The swings were also available through the online stores of Amazon, Target, Babylist and more. They were sold between November 2022 and November 2023 for approximately $150.
So far the company is unaware of any injuries as a result of the issue. Approximately 63,100 units are affected by the recall. For more information, contact Jool Baby at 1-888-788-5665 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST, Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST, on Friday.
