One of the country’s largest retailers is making some major changes.
Walmart recently announced a plan to remodel hundreds of its stores and open about 150 new stores, over the next five years.
The company is kicking off the plan with openings of smaller-format Neighborhood Markets in California and Georgia this spring (after closing two stores in January 2024).
Walmart will simultaneously remodel 650 of its existing stores over the next 12 months. Stores to be remodeled are located throughout 47 states and Puerto Rico.
Walmart’s remodels will reflect the company’s Store of the Future concept.

The concept features new layouts, an expanded selection of products and new technology for associates to aid shoppers.
There are currently 62 Walmart stores and 8 Sam’s Club stores in the Garden State.
The brand operates 5,215 Walmart locations and 599 Sam’s Club stores nationwide.
