EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Police say a woman who wasn’t supposed to be on Walmart property was arrested after a shoplifting incident Saturday morning.
According to the Evansville Police Department, officers were called to the Walmart on Burkhardt for a report of theft around 11:30 a.m.
Officers say the suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Toni Jo Wilson, had under-scanned nine of the items in her cart.
Walmart employees say Wilson was stopped at grocery doors and tried to push them open with her cart.
Wilson left the cart behind and ran towards a silver Nissan Altima with Ohio plates, officers say.
According to an affidavit, the Nissan belonged to a woman who had picked up Wilson before the theft and given her the car keys.
The woman claimed to have not really known Wilson very well.
After letting the woman go, police say Wilson pulled up in the Nissan and was trying to pick her up.
Wilson was arrested by police and charged with shoplifting and criminal trespass.
Police say Wilson was banned from Walmart for life back in 2015.
After the shoplifting incident Saturday, the woman who reportedly gave Wilson the car keys was also banned from Walmart.
