Walmart baby registry: How to set it up, add items online and in store, and get your loved ones your list - NJ.com

The benefits of online shopping are endless, but when you’re welcoming a new baby into the family, there’s nothing quite like registering in a store.

With Walmart’s baby registry, you can create your registry online and add items from home or visit one of Walmart’s 4,500+ retail stores in the U.S., scan products and add them to your wishlist the old fashioned way.

If you know your friends and family like shopping in person, too, then you can let them know they can shop online or head to their favorite Walmart locale to start ticking things off your list.

How to create your Walmart baby registry

  • Head to the Walmart homepage.
  • Once you’re there, click the “Services” navigation next to the white “Search everything at Walmart online and in store” bubble.
  • Scroll to “Registry, Lists, & Gifts” and then, select “Baby Registry” from the list of options.
  • When you see the “Let’s get you started” screen, click the “Create now” button under “Create your registry.”
  • You’ll be prompted to sign into your Walmart account. If you enter your email address and no account exists already, you’ll be directed to a registration page where you can add your first and last name and a password.
  • Follow all instructions to safeguard your logins.
  • Update your registry profile with your first and last name, the first and last name of a co-registrant (if you’d like to include your partner or the baby’s other parent), a registry name (i.e. Baby Smith 2024) and your baby’s gender.
  • Add your baby’s expected arrival date.
  • Add a default mailing address for items friends and family choose to have shipped directly to you.
  • Choose whether your registry is public (i.e. searchable on Walmart.com via your name and state) or private (i.e. not searchable, but link can be shared with your family and friends).
  • Tap the “Create registry” button to bring up your bare-bones registry dashboard.

How to add baby essentials to your registry

If you’re adding products to your registry online:

  • You can use the search bar to look up any product by brand or product name,
  • From the results page, click on any product you’d like to learn more about.
  • To add a product to your registry, scroll down and select “Add to Registry,” which has a gift icon to the left of it.
  • When prompted with the “Add Item to Registry” pop-up window, click the blue “Save” button, and the item will automatically be added to your registry.

While Walmart doesn’t have built-in checklists, you can click the “View Popular Registry Items” to get a list of currently trending products in a right-rail navigation.

If you’re adding products to your registry in store:

  • Visit customer service to get a scanner or use your Walmart app to scan barcodes and add items directly to your registry.
  • If using your Walmart app, open and click “My Items” to locate your registry.
  • Select “Scan Item to Add.”
  • Scan the barcode of any in-store item to add directly to your registry.

Walmart has a detailed FAQ tab to help field any questions that might pop up as you continue building your registry.

How to share your registry with friends and family

Even if your registry is set to private (i.e. not searchable via Walmart.com), you can share the link straight from your registry dashboard.

  • From your dashboard, click the “Share This Registry” link with the pop-out window icon to the left. Then, hit the clear “Copy URL” button.
  • Copy and paste the link URL into a text or email or share with your entire social community using the social media share buttons.
  • Anyone who gets this link can access your registry.

Walmart used to offer a coveted “Baby Registry Welcome Box” full of coupons and samples. However, the boxes have been sold out for the last six months.

If you’ll be creating a registry ahead of your new arrival, definitely keep checking back for 2024 updates. Welcome boxes are one of the best perks of any baby registry, after all.
