Police: 2 in custody after shooting outside Walmart in Dexter - KFVS

DEXTER, Mo. (KFVS) - Police are working to track down a second vehicle involved in an apparent shootout in the parking lot at Walmart in Dexter.

According to Dexter Police Chief Hank Trout, they were dispatched to Walmart Supercenter on W. Business Highway 60 just after 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30 for a report of shots fired.

Officers stopped a car matching the description of a suspect vehicle on Specialty Drive, near Business Hwy. 60. Two suspects were taken into custody and a gun was recovered.

Chief Trout said they learned during the investigation that two vehicles were parked on the east side of the Walmart parking lot when people from one vehicle approached the other. They then returned to their vehicle and while driving away, the driver of the parked vehicle got out, pulled a handgun and fired at the other vehicle. Both vehicles then left the area.

The vehicle that was shot at while leaving the area was later found in Hayti, Mo. with no one inside. It will be taken back to the Dexter Police Department.

The suspects are currently being held at the Dexter Police Department pending the filing of formal charges.
