One man arrested after police respond to Walmart for shoplifting in progress - Eyewitness News 3

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - A 48-year-old Waterbury man has been arrested for carrying a BB handgun in a Wallingford Walmart.

Police say they responded to the Walmart at 844 North Colony Road after someone called to report several people in the store who had stolen merchandise the night prior.

The caller informed police that the suspects, two women, and a man, were in the process of trying to shoplift again.

Officers detained the three suspects as they exited the store without incident, police said in a press release.

The man, 48-year-old Edgar Rivera, was found to have a black BB handgun in his vest pocket, which resembled a real handgun.

He was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and held on a $15,000.00 surety bond.

Police found the three suspects had left their shopping cart of unpaid merchandise near a register.

Police are still investigating the shoplifting incident from the night.
