A man from Smyrna accused of setting a fire inside the Walmart in Bangor in Nov. 2023 is now facing a federal arson charge.Lucas Landry, 44, was arraigned in federal court in Bangor on Friday. The judge ordered Landry to be held after the hearing and a lawyer was appointed to represent him.If convicted on the federal charge, he faces five to 20 years in prison.Landry was originally charged in Penobscot County Superior Court with arson and a probation violation. Police arrested Landry at his home the next day. Court documents accuse Landry of setting the fire to try and cover up a theft.After the fire started, court documents say he walked out with a cart full of items and put them into his work truck.Bystanders used fire extinguishers to help contain the fire before the store sprinkler system kicked in. According to court documents, the fire and water damage destroyed about $10 million of inventory in the store.
