Walmart Is Offering Full Thanksgiving Meal Kits Starting at $30 - EatingWell

As much as we look forward to the food-packed holiday season, the fall and winter celebrations can be tough on the old bank account. Given the impact of inflation on grocery store prices, a turkey dinner with all the fixings could pack a very pricey punch.

If you’re worried about tailoring your Thanksgiving menu to fit a tighter budget this year, Walmart’s Thanksgiving deals may be able to help you out. This year, the retailer is bringing back its Thanksgiving meal bundles and offering them at a discount—three meal kits that pull together common ingredients for a Thanksgiving soirée. Each of the baskets can help take some of the stress out of holiday grocery shopping, and there’s a wide selection of items that will work for just about any holiday host.

A well-versed cook can opt for the from-scratch basket, which includes many of the basic ingredients needed for a typical Thanksgiving dinner, from canned pumpkin to turkey. And for a more convenient option, less-confident cooks can snag one of the two baskets that are filled with premade or ready-to-bake options, like instant potatoes and frozen pies.

Beginning November 1, Walmart is offering all three kits at prices lower than they were last year, so you know you’ll be saving a few bucks. The wide-ranging, from-scratch kit will cost $77, and the more convenient options will cost $70 for the larger, name-brand basket and $30 for the smaller, store-brand basket.

The smaller Thanksgiving meal kit will include the basics you need to whip up green bean casserole and easy mashed potatoes, plus the classic turkey and stuffing. All of the items in this basket are private label, so expect to see Walmart’s Great Value label on the packaging. Though this kit might not be the best choice for a showy home cook, it’s a great option for folks who want classic Thanksgiving flavors and dishes without stressful grocery shopping and hours upon hours in the kitchen.

Here’s what will be included in the $30 basket:

  • A 16-pound frozen turkey
  • Chicken stuffing mix
  • Canned turkey gravy
  • French-fried onions
  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Canned whole kernel corn
  • Canned cut green beans
  • Canned cream of mushroom
  • Jellied cranberry sauce
  • A pack of rolls

This kit is the smallest of the bunch and will serve six people. If you’re looking to have a quiet, relaxed holiday, the Great Value basket will definitely help you out.

Of course, you might also want to feed a crowd—that’s where the name-brand basket comes in. Like the from-scratch option, this basket serves eight to ten people, but it includes lots of heat-and-eat options, like refrigerated macaroni and cheese, easy stuffing and frozen desserts. To help stretch your meal, this basket also includes ham as well as turkey, making it a great option for folks who don’t love the Thanksgiving bird.

Here’s the full selection of items in the $70 basket:

  • Bob Evans mac and cheese
  • Bob Evans mashed potatoes
  • Whipped topping
  • Heinz homestyle gravy
  • Ocean Spray cranberry sauce
  • Stove Top stuffing

For the more aspirational cooks, Walmart’s full meal basket may be the way to go. This option includes the ingredients you’ll need to make sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce and the standard turkey and dressing. Many of these ingredients are name-brand, but a few Great Value basics round out the basket.

Even if you already have recipes in mind for the holiday, it could be worth checking to see if this basket will help you shop for the necessary ingredients without breaking the bank.

Here’s what you’ll find in the $77 basket:
