Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for a man they believe started a fire inside a Marrero Walmart this week before fleeing.
Jefferson Parish deputies and firefighters were called to the Walmart at 4810 Laplaco Boulevard Tuesday night, when a small fire ignited inside the store. The flames were extinguished by the building's sprinkler system, sheriff's office officials said.
Surveillance footage from the store shows a man standing in an isle in the sporting good section that night at around 11 p.m., just before the area becomes engulfed in flames, officials said. The man then exits the store and leaves on a bicycle.
It's not the first store to face such an attack this year. A Walmart in Metairie closed briefly in August after a man set fire to a section of the store and trash cans outside. A Covington Walmart closed for about a week in June after an arsonist's fire consumed an isle of products in the automotive department while a couple hundred people were in the store.
Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office at (504) 354-5300 or contact Crimestoppers.
