Walmart to Close 15 Stores in April – Here’s the Full List - Cord Cutters News

Walmart is officially closing 15 of its retail stores across 11 states this month, according to a report from Business Insider. 

The mass closures include locations in Arkansas (1 store), Georgia (2), Florida (1), Hawaii (1), Illinois (3), Indiana (1), Minnesota (1), New Mexico (1), Oregon (2), Texas (1), Washington (1), Washington, D.C. (1), and Wisconsin (1). 

At the Arkansas location in Bentonville, reports cited poor financial performance as the reasoning behind the rapid closures. Not only stores are affected either, Walmart will also include laying off hundreds of employees at five e-commerce fulfillment centers across the United States.

Walmart announced earlier this month it’s two remaining Portland, Oregon locations would be closing due to high levels of theft, and were both included in this list. 

Last year, the retail giant also closed two Ohio locations, one in Mayfield Heights and  the other in Cincinnati, most likely for the same issues. 

Recently, Walmart has been pushing for a more virtual presence, highlighting their online shopping features and delivery services. Walmart CFO John David Rainey stated earlier this month: “Today, the vast majority of our overall profits are attributable to in-store, brick-and-mortar in the U.S. If you fast forward five years, we are much less dependent on that as an income stream than some of these other faster-growing parts of our business.” 

Walmart will instead focus more on third-party sellers active on Walmart.com, claiming that expanding e-commerce channels is central to Walmart’s strategy going forward, according to Rainey.
