In an effort to emphasize sustainable shopping, Walmart started its Built for Better program, which labels sustainable products sold on the store's site. The program will allow you to shop more intentionally and focus on sustainability without breaking the bank. All products with the Built for Better icons meet independent and authoritative standards for encouraging personal wellness and reducing our impact on the environment.
Items in the program will have one of two icons—Built Better for You or Built Better for the Planet. Products with the Built Better for You stamp are healthy products that are either focused on nutrition or are made without specific materials or ingredients shoppers may not want. Some icons for these products are EWG Verified, Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, Great for You and more. Walmart is also promoting its Clean Beauty section which calls attention to sustainable beauty products made without over 1,200 harmful ingredients.
The Built Better for the Planet label highlights items that reduce the impact on the planet by focusing on sustainably sourced and climate-conscious products. The label recognizes over 30 environmentally-friendly standards like Energy Star Certified, Rainforest Alliance Certified, Global Organic Textile Standard and more.
Although Earth Day is a great reminder to take care of our planet, we must remember to do so throughout the year by shopping sustainably and considering how our shopping habits affect the environment.
