Mobile police are continuing to look for the people involved in a shooting Tuesday night at a Walmart off Interstate 65.
Cpl. Ryan Blakely said the incident happened at about 8:35 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter at 101 East I-65 Service Road South.
Police responded to a shots-fired call and found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Blakely said.
Police believe the incident involved two separate groups of individuals. One group was at the self-checkout line when the other group entered the store.
One person from each group exchanged gunfire.
The people who were not wounded fled the store. The shooting prompted a lockdown of the store.
“We are saddened by what took place in our Mobile store last night,” a Walmart spokesperson said in a statement. “The safety of our associates and customers is our top priority. We will work closely with local law enforcement through the course of their investigation.”
