Walmart closing a store in Greater Cincinnati next month, company says - The Cincinnati Enquirer

Walmart is closing one of its Greater Cincinnati locations citing underperformance, the company said in a statement.

The store at 1143 Smiley Ave. in Forest Park is set to close by April 22, officials said, adding the decision was based on factors including historic and current financial performance.

All employees at the Forest Park store will be eligible to transfer to other locations, the company's statement reads.

“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Forest Park location," the statement reads. "We look forward to serving them at our other stores in the surrounding communities and on walmart.com.”

Walmart, the Arkansas-based supercenter chain, will continue to operate 12 stores in the Cincinnati region, the company said.

The company's decision came as a surprise to Forest Park leaders, city officials said, adding they're confident the city will be able to attract new investment in the property.

“While we never want a business to close, this decision allows us to reevaluate our options and find the best possible solution for the City,” City Manager Don Jones said in a statement.

“The subject property holds great value given its proximity to I-275, a growing number of businesses in the area, and first-class residential homes," Jones said. "Our goal is to bring something new to the site that our residents want and need."
