The days leading up to Christmas are a shopping frenzy as people prepare to indulge family and friends with piles of presents and lavish feasts.

But while many stores close their doors on December 25, the retail rush often restarts on the day after Christmas, to accommodate those who received the wrong-sized clothes or wanting to swap an unwanted gift for something more to their liking.

Read on to find out whether the day after Christmas 2021 opening for Walmart, Target, Kohl's, Best Buy, Macy's and many more major stores.

Please note, while Newsweek has contacted every retailer featured in this piece, some stores have yet to respond, meaning it is important to always check with your local store before visiting on December 26.

Walmart

Shoppers at the world's largest company by revenue know Walmart is typically shut on Christmas Day.

A spokesperson for Walmart has confirmed to Newsweek Walmart's more than 4,700 stores will resume "normal hours" on December 26, opening at 6am and closing at 11pm.

Target

While U.S. retail giant Target's stores will be open from 7am to 8pm on Christmas Eve, they will shut their doors on December 25.

A spokesperson confirmed to Good Housekeeping outlets will reopen at 7am on the day after Christmas 2021 and close with their regular hours.

However, hours may vary by location, meaning shoppers should check Target.com or the Target app for more opening time information for your local store.

Kohl's

A spokesperson for department store chain Kohl's told Newsweek its festive opening hours have yet to be released.

Kohl's said: "We have not yet announced our store hours for the Christmas timeframe, but we will be happy to share with you once we do."

Best Buy

While consumer electronics retailer Best Buy is closed on December 25, regular hours are expected to resume on the day after Christmas, according to The Holiday Schedule.

Macy's

U.S. department store chain Macy's closes early on Christmas Eve and will remain shut on Christmas Day.

Fortunately for shoppers, Macy's will open early the next day, at 7am, while closing at the regular time, according to The Holiday Schedule.

Gamestop

Video game and consumer electronic store Gamestop stores are accessible for their regular opening hours on Christmas Eve and are shut for the duration of Christmas Day.

Gamestop outlets are then expected to reopen for extended hours on Sunday, December 26, according to Holiday Shopping Hours.

Costco

The one-stop shop for your essentials will be closed on Christmas Day 2021, Country Living reports.

Fortunately, Costco's holiday store closures make no reference to the day after Christmas, meaning the big-box retailer will likely be open for business as usual on December 26.

BJ's Wholesale Club

The popular membership-only warehouse club chain will be closed for the whole of Christmas Day 2021.

But according to the BJ's Wholesale Club opening hours site, normal hours will resume the day after Christmas.

Sam's Club

The membership-only retail warehouse retailer will be shutting its stores on Christmas Day.

But the Sam's Club site confirms opening hours will be slightly extended on the day after Christmas, from 10am to 8pm on Sunday, December 26.

Home Depot

America's largest home improvement retailer is, like many other stores, shut on December 25, 2021.

However, Home Depot customers will regain access to its stores on the day after Christmas, according to Open Close Hrs.

Lowe's

The retail company specializing in home improvement will be closed on Christmas Day 2021.

But fortunately for those deciding to make the most of the holidays by doing some DIY, Lowe's store will return to regular operating hours on the day after Christmas.

A spokesperson told Newsweek: "While our stores are closed on Christmas Day to give associates and customers time to spend with their families, Lowes.com will be available for customers looking for something special on Christmas Day. Lowe's will resume operating normal business hours on December 26."
