
Arizona in September finally recouped all of the private-sector jobs lost during the pandemic as the state's unemployment rate eased to 5.7%, the first drop below 6% in a year and a half.
Employers continue to add staff, some as full-time positions and others as temporary positions heading into the holiday shopping season.
Here are some of the larger job fairs on the horizon:
Carmax seeking 100 people
Used-vehicle retailer Carmax plans to fill around 100 jobs in metro Phoenix and 3,700 nationally by the end of the year.
The company has openings in many areas including auto technicians, detailers and painters; customer-service consultants; store sales and business-office associates; and positions in digital technology and data science.

Walmart hiring for distribution
Walmart, the second-largest nongovernmental employer in Arizona, is planning to host nationwide hiring events on Nov. 3 and 4 focusing on distribution jobs. In the Phoenix area, the events will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days at 23701 W. Southern Ave. in Buckeye and 868 W. Peters Rd. in Casa Grande.
Open positions include lift drivers, order fillers, shipping loaders, diesel technicians, drivers, warehouse workers and power-equipment operators. Walmart said its supply-chain associate wages average $20.37 an hour.

Airport restaurant jobs to be filled
HMSHost is seeking to fill 150 full- and part-time positions at various restaurants that it operates at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport during a hiring event Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Open positions include assistant managers, baristas, hosts and hostesses, cashiers, dishwashers, line cooks and more. The company offers benefits including medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, vacation and sick pay, holiday pay, free meals and free parking.
Its restaurants at the airport include Starbucks, La Grande Orange, Chelsea’s Kitchen, Blanco Tacos & Tequila, Olive & Ivy Marketplace, Zinburger, Shake Shack, Barrio Café, SanTan Brewery and Cowboy Ciao.

Security staff sought
Allied Universal is looking to hire 50 or more security employees in Mesa. The company will hold a hiring open house Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a company office at 3030 N. Central Ave., Suite #407, in Phoenix.
In addition to in-person interviews, applicants may complete an online application.

Mall retail positions open
Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale will host a job fair on Nov. 2 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with more than 40 retailers looking to add staff this holiday season.
Brands including Apple, Coach, Champs Sports, Foot Locker, JCPenney and Pandora are planning to participate. Some retailers will conduct on-site interviews. Applications also will be taken for mall security and Glendale Police Department and Dispatch.
