Walmart offers free health screenings Saturday - The Garden Island

LIHU‘E — In addition to the COVID-19 vaccine clinic, the Walmart store in Lihu‘e will be offering a variety of activities Saturday when it joins the nationwide free Walmart Wellness Day campaign.

Walmart is inviting customers to take control of their health at Walmart Wellness Day, where they can get health screenings and wellness resources at Walmart pharmacies at all 10 Walmart stores in the state. The Wellness Day offerings are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This upcoming Wellness Day event is the first in-store wellness event since January 2020, according to a Walmart spokesperson, and will include free health screenings and COVID-19 vaccinations to help customers get on track with preventive health measures for in-person work and school.

According to information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 41% of Americans delayed health care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to make it simple for our customers to prioritize their health and catch up on preventive care by offering convenient health resources where they’re already shopping for groceries and back-to-school items,” said Dr. Cheryl Pegus, the Walmart health and wellness executive vice president.

“We are especially focused on reaching customers in underserved communities who may have limited options for health care in their community, outside our pharmacies. Walmart Wellness Day is a day for the entire family, and we’ll be offering screenings and services for all ages.”

Walmart Wellness Day will include free health screenings, including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body-mass index and vision screenings by qualified Walmart pharmacy team members who will also be available for educational health resources and consultations.

Additionally, affordable immunizations, including measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox), HPV, tetanus, whooping cough (TDAP) and more, will be offered.

Individuals receiving their COVID-19 vaccines at Walmart or Sam’s Club can get a free digital version of their vaccination record that individuals may print, save on a device or share with third-party apps if they choose.

Walmart pharmacies have been hosting Walmart Wellness Days since 2014 and, since then, have administered more than 4.75 million free health screenings for customers.
