CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Walmart announced on Tuesday it will begin offering the COVID-19 vaccine through its pharmacy departments in select locations, and that includes Clarksville.
All six Clarksville Walmart locations and the Sam’s Club at 3315 Guthrie Highway will offer the vaccine free of charge to those who are eligible through the priority list from the state.
While it is unknown exactly when the Clarksville Walmart locations will receive their allotments of the vaccine; it should be sometime in the next week, according to a news release from Walmart Corporate.
In the meantime, Walmart has set up a COVID-19 website portal that allows users to check an area’s availability.
Walmart worked with the CDC and state governments to come up with the plan to distribute vaccines, and took the population density, customer demographics, infection rates and availability of local health care resources to choose locations for offering the vaccine, according to the news release.
So far, Montgomery County Health Director Joey Smith said he has yet to hear from Walmart on their plans for Clarksville.
“More access to vaccine for our citizens is great news,” Smith said.
Gov. Bill Lee said that in order to reach the goal of vaccinating as many people possible in Tennessee, Walmart is an invaluable partner.
“Due to the large footprint of Walmart stores across our state, we will be able to reach residents quickly and provide equitable and accessible vaccine distribution. We’re proud to partner with Walmart and know their expertise and geographic footprint will help boost our vaccine rollout and vaccination rates,” Lee said in the Walmart news release.
