Pop-up vaccine clinic coming to Orlando Walmart - WKMG News 6 & ClickOrlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – Walmart will begin offering pop-up vaccine clinics in the parking lots of three Florida locations Thursday, including one store in Orlando.

Store leaders said they expect to vaccinate 3,000 seniors and healthcare workers over the next three weeks.

The location at 3101 W. Princeton St. in Orlando will be the only Central Florida Walmart to feature one of these pop-up clinics, according to a Walmart spokesperson.

The vaccinations at this clinic are only available to persons 65 and older health care personnel with direct patient contact and residents and staff of long-term care facilities.

These pop-up clinics, offering the Pfizer vaccine, will be in addition to the vaccines being offered inside the stores, which offer the Moderna vaccine, the company said. The shots at the pop-up clinic are being made available through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

“We have two goals as we administer vaccines: first, to get as many shots in eligible arms as possible so we can start the process of reopening our country, and second, ensuring equitable vaccine access across the communities we serve,” said Dr. Cheryl Pegus, Walmart’s Executive Vice President, Health & Wellness, in a news release.

Black seniors who live near this Orlando Walmart said the pop-up site is great news when it comes to more access.

“It’s amazing I couldn’t believe it,” Earl Vorde said. “Black people in this area it’s very difficult for them to get an appointment, they got online they can’t get one.”

“Plus, the bus stop is right there. So, I think it’s easy access,” Mariam Servant said .

Servant said she wants the vaccine so she can feel safe working her home cleaning business.

“I’m always in and out of people’s house, so I think I need it,” Servant said.

Orlando Commissioner Bakari Burns had recently gone door to door making sure Black seniors are aware of the vaccine sites in their community. He’s said to happy to hear of this new pop-up site.

“This is great news and again I’m very appreciative for Walmart coming into the community and listening,” Burns said. “My appreciation to Walmart and all that they’re doing to ensure these underserved communities are getting access to these vaccines.”
