Milwaukee's Central Standard Craft Distillery is one of five Wisconsin companies whose products will soon be sold by Walmart and Sam's Club.
Central Standard received a "yes" from buyers during an open call event at the beginning of October.
Central Standard is a small batch distillery that makes bourbon, whiskey and vodka. The company is in the process of renovating the Wisconsin Leather Building at 320 E. Clybourn St. to become the Central Standard Experience.
The other Wisconsin companies to move forward include: Croix Valley Foods, Minhas Craft Brewery & Distillery, Mybread Gluten-Free Bakery and Mosser Lee. Around two dozen Wisconsin entrepreneurs were invited to attend the virtual event.
Central Standard and the other Wisconsin companies will now work with Walmart on cost and supply chain expectations with the goal of the company becoming a successful supplier. There is no timeline set for if or when these suppliers could have their products in the store.
Walmart invites local companies to pitch their products to land a spot on Walmart and Sam's Club shelves, on Walmart.com and Walmart Marketplace.
More than 800 businesses from across the country pitched U.S.-made goods to the retailer. More than 175 received a “yes,” advancing them to the next stage in the process to land on store and club shelves.
