Palm Desert Walmart to temporarily close for deep cleaning - The Desert Sun

Walmart in Palm Desert will close this weekend "as part of a company-initiated program" to conduct a deep cleaning of the facility.

The company's director of communications Tiffany Wilson said the store on Monterey Avenue will close at 2 p.m. on Saturday and reopen at 7 a.m. Monday.

"This will allow extra time for a third-party specialist to further sanitize the store," Wilson said in an email. "It will also give our associates additional time to restock shelves and prepare the store to once again serve the community during this unprecedented time."

When it reopens, the store will continue its health and safety protocols like conducting health screens of its employees and giving them face masks and gloves.

Other health and safety efforts at Walmart include installing sneeze guards at registers, limiting the number of customers in a store at any one time, one-way aisle shopping, placing social distancing signage, and enacting an emergency leave policy for associates who are unable or uncomfortable coming to work.

The Desert Sun reached out for more information on why the closure is happening this weekend.
