After employee dies of coronavirus, Quincy Walmart reopens with modified hours - MassLive.com

A Walmart in Quincy reopened on Monday after an employee had died from the coronavirus. The store had closed last week after the death.

Walmart announced the reopening of the store located at 301 Falls Boulevard on Monday morning. The facility was given a deep cleaning and employees were tested after the worker died.

More than two dozen employees had tested positive for COVID-19, according to Quincy health officials.

“The coronavirus is a community-wide issue that, at times, takes a community-wide response," Boston-area Regional General Manager, Eddie Bostic said in a statement. “We are thankful for local officials’ efforts to help coordinate associate testing these last few days and for reviewing the extensive safety and health measures we have in place at the store.”

The store closed last week after the 69-year-old employee died of COVID-19.

The store will temporarily alter its operating hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. before returning to normal hours in the near future.

Employees who tested negative for COVID-19 will return to work, while those who tested positive will remain home on Walmart’s coronavirus policy. Walmart said it allows employees that test positive for COVID-19 to remain home while receiving pay for several weeks.

With the Quincy location reopened, Bostic said all Boston-area Walmarts are open.

“We will continue to closely monitor this store, and others in the area, to help ensure the well-being of our associates and customers," Bostic said.

Walmart locations in Avon and Abington locations were both closed on May 6. It was the second time the Abington location closed. Both are now also open.

Workers at the Abington location had tested positive for the virus. Avon health officials said the Walmart there was also closed so employees could be tested.

Both locations were given a deep cleaning.

Like Quincy, the Avon Walmart is open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. but the hours will be adjusted to normal times soon. The Abington store is open from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Walmart in Worcester was shut down on April 29 after employees tested positive for coronavirus. A total of 81 employees had tested positive. The Worcester Walmart reopened last week.
