Shoppers say they've been getting plastic bags at local Walmart locations.

Somers went out to the Walmart in Penfield at Baytowne Plaza and also found plastic bags at checkout. Store cashiers say they ran out of paper bags days ago then started using plastic bags.

It is worth noting penalties are not being enforced until April. The state Department of Environmental Conservation made that announcement earlier this year due to a pending lawsuit.

News10NBC reached out to Walmart for a statement on a previous story ahead of the plastic bag mandate on how the company would adjust, we did not get a response.
