Walmart plans to hire about 700 people in the Valley in part for growth as well as delving into new services for which customers are opting.
The company will hire across the region, but it has particular needs in the north Phoenix, Scottsdale and Cave Creek areas, said Tiffany Wilson, the retailer's communications director.
"Our needs are mostly concentrated in the North Phoenix, Scottsdale and Cave Creek area, however we are hiring in central Phoenix, Glendale and beyond," she said.
Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart Inc. is already the state's third-largest employer with more than 33,600 workers.
