Bentonville, Ark. – Walmart US and Sam’s Club announced a series of appointments and new hires.
Scott McCall, a 25-year veteran of the company, has been named chief merchandising officer, effective Jan. 1. He began his career with Walmart as an hourly management trainee at store in Grenada,

Miss., and later moved to company headquarters in Bentonville in an operational role for Walmart before becoming a merchandise buyer.
His merchandising posts that have included work as a buyer in lawn & garden, vice president in hardware and toys, and senior vice president in consumables, health and wellness, and home.
Prior to his current position, he most recently served as senior vice president for entertainment, toys and seasonal where he led all merchandising activities for toys, seasonal, celebrations, media and gaming, consumer electronics, wireless and photo.
“Scott is a world-class merchant who understands our customers and the ways they want to shop with us,” Furner said in the release.
He succeeds Steve Bratspies, chief merchandising officer at Walmart U.S. for the past four years, who is leaving the company after 14 years.
The company said Bratspies played a critical role in the transformation of Walmart’s US business, citing improved food assortments, the expansion of digital tools and his work on pricing.
“Steve is ready for a new challenge, and we wish him all the best,” Walmart said in the internal memo circulated Friday to employees.
Other appointments announced Jan. 17 include:
- Meng Chee has been hired as chief product officer, a new position. He will focus on leveraging technology to deliver outstanding customer experiences. He was previously digital chief experience officer at JP Morgan.
- Alex Kreuger has been named senior vice president of voice of the customer and will lead an expanded customer care organization. He steps into comes to the new role from Walmart’s supply chain division, where he managed fulfillment centers.
- Kelvin Buncum has been promoted to EVO of Neighborhood Markets. He has served as a regional general manager for the North Georgia region and previous worked at Sam’s Club in leadership roles including innovations and global processes.
- Latriece Watkins has been named EVP of consumables. The 20-year at Walmart veteran has been a buyer and oversaw beverages and snacks and other consumable categories.
- Lance de la Rosa is being promoted to EVP and chief operating officer at Sam’s Club. A 30-year veteran of the company, he has held several operational leadership roles at Walmart and Sam’s Club.
- Vinod Bidarkoppa will join Sam’s Club on Feb. 5 as senior vice president of technology. He was most recently senior vice president of technology at United Healthcare Group.
