2 Alabama Walmart stores announce new hours, no longer open 24 hours - AL.com

Late-night shoppers accustomed to frequenting some Alabama Walmart stores will have to change their routines.

At least two Walmart stores currently open 24-hours a day have announced new schedules. Starting Feb. 1, Walmart locations on Sparkman Drive NW in Huntsville and East I-65 Service Road South at MidTown in Mobile will cease 24-hour-a-day operations. Under the new schedule, stores will close at 1 a.m. and re-open at 6 a.m.

The schedule is the same as the Hartselle Walmart location, which stopped 24-hour operations late last year.

The nation’s largest retailer announced last year it was eliminating 24-hour operations at as many as 100 locations. The change, according to Walmart, is to ensure associates are working the hours when they are needed the most.

“By shifting these hours, we’re able to make sure more associates are on the floor during peak customer times, resulting in better customer service,” Walmart spokesman Justin Rushing told WJAC.

No jobs are expected to be eliminated.
