Easter Sunday, the day on which Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, will take place on April 21 this year. The day is not a federal holiday in the U.S., but due to it falling on a Sunday, many stores will be following normal Sunday trading hours. Whether you’ve got errands or need to grab another Easter basket, there are stores that will be open during the holiday.

Grocery Stores

Forgot the most important ingredient for your Easter lunch? Don’t worry, grocery stores such as Kroger, Safeway, Fred Meyer and Albertsons will all be operating normal Sunday hours. Some Trader Joe’s will be open, so double check to see if your nearest location has regular operating hours.

Department Stores

Walmart will be open on Easter Sunday, operating normal trading hours, with supercenters operating 24 hours. Kmart, Sears and Old Navy will also keep their doors open and run regular business hours. It's recommended to check on the day at your local stores for opening hours.

Home Improvement Stores

If you're planning on getting some home improvements done over the Easter weekend, then you'll be happy to hear that Home Depot is remaining open on Easter Sunday. Lowes will also be operating normal Sunday hours, but some stores may close slightly earlier, so check ahead of time before driving out.

CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens/Duane Reade will remain open during Easter Sunday, operating normal Sunday business hours.
