Walmart ending 'savings catcher,' says it's prices are lowest 'vast majority of the time' - Dallas News

Walmart will end its "savings catcher" program, saying the price-matching tool has mostly found Walmart prices are lower anyway.

Customers have until May 14 to submit their Walmart Pay e-receipts for processing.

The program started in 2014 and Walmart said in an alert to savings catcher members that the information it's gathered has helped it lower prices on thousands of everyday items across the store.

That has "resulted in our prices winning the vast majority of the time when you submit receipts to Savings Catcher," Walmart said. "This tells us that the program's intent has been met, which was to provide you upfront with everyday low prices."

Shoppers with balances on their electronic gift cards can spend their rewards anytime with no deadline.

The program works with Walmart's app. Shoppers can still scan their paper receipts for record keeping or to start a mobile return, according to Walmart's website.

People on social media are upset and displayed significant balances they've earned over the life of the program, some well into the hundreds of dollars.
