Suspect arrested after man stabbed in head outside Walmart - Courier Journal

Louisville police have arrested a man in connection with Sunday afternoon's stabbing outside a West Buechel Walmart.

Leony J. Alvarez-Carrion, 34, faces a first-degree assault charge, according to an online court database. A Louisville Metro Police spokesman confirmed Monday that Alvarez-Carrion's arrest was related to Sunday's incident. 

Alvarez-Carrion was scheduled for arraignment Monday morning. An arrest citation was not immediately available.

Fighting was reported in the Walmart store's parking lot in the 2000 block of Bashford Manor Lane, according to Metrosafe. The fight between the two men led to one of them getting stabbed, police said Sunday.

West Buechel Police Chief Jim Sherrard said the man, stabbed in the head, was taken to University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition.

West Buechel Police reached out to Louisville police, whose homicide unit is investigating the case.

Louisville police spokesman Matthew Sanders said Monday that the stabbed man was still in critical condition.
