Musician Kid Rock paid off balances for 350 accounts that totaled about $81,000, The Tennessean newspaper reported.
Kid Rock's announcement came a day after actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry paid off more than $430,000 worth of layaway items at two stores in the Atlanta metro area, CNN reported.
Perry, who tried to make the donation anonymously, he said on Twitter.
"@tylerperry Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville," Kid Rock said in a message on Twitter. "Merry Christmas and God Bless You!"
After Kid Rock recently made profane remarks on "Fox & Friends," he was booted from leading the Nashville Christmas Parade, in which he had volunteered to be the grand marshal, The Associated Press reported.
He'll participate in a different parade this month.
