Walmart's Worst Black Friday 2018 Deals

Walmart released its coveted 32-page Black Friday ad last week with sales on TVs, Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets, and the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The ad contains some great deals, but there are also some very high profile ones you need to know should be avoided…

Note: While I call these Walmart’s “worst” deals that doesn’t mean they are bad, it means you are wasting money because the exact same deals can be found elsewhere for a better price. Walmart Black Friday 2018 sales include some headline deals you should avoidWalmart

Sony PS4 Slim Bundle Value - Walmart is offering the Sony PS4 1TB Slim Spider-Man Bundle for $199 (See Ad Scan Deal) but Kohl’s has the same bundle for 99c more + $60 in Kohl's Cash coupons (See Better Deal). Walmart featured this deal on the first page of its Black Friday ad. Don’t fall for it.

Fitbit Versa - Walmart will sell the Fitbit Versa for $149 saving you $50 (See Ad Scan Deal). Again Kohl’s smashes this offer by charging 99c more but bundling $45 Kohl's Cash (See Better Deal). This makes the Versa just $104.99 at Kohl’s. Yes, please.

Samsung Galaxy Phones - Walmart is giving a free $300 Walmart Gift Card with the purchase and activation of a Galaxy S8, S8+, S9, S9+ or Note 9 on AT&T Next, Sprint, or Verizon (See Ad Scan Deal). Best Buy beats this. It is offering direct savings on the same models with qualified activation (See Better Black Friday Deal). Walmart gift cards are great, but money in your pocket is always better.

Sony PlayStation - Walmart is offering the Sony PlayStation VR Astro Bot Bundle for $199 saving you $100 (See Ad Scan Deal). Kohl’s again kills it but charging 99c more but giving you $60 Kohl's Cash on top (See Better Deal). This is another big scalp for Kohl’s.

Xbox One S - Walmart’s Black Friday Xbox One S 1TB Minecraft Creators Bundle sells for $199 saving you $100 (See Ad Scan Deal). Target charges 99c more but it throws in a free $20 Gift Card (See Target Deal). Kohl’s does even better, again charging 99c more but adding $60 Kohl's Cash (See Better Deal).

These are high profile losses for Walmart, but its Black Friday sales do contain some great savings. The standout is its massive iPhone savings which easily top any other retailer. There are also problematic deals at Best Buy, at Kohl’s, and at Target. My top tip: Be deal-focused not store-loyal.
