A bomb scare Friday night at the Anderson Walmart caused both an evacuation of the store and a traffic tie-up due to detours away from the business.
Authorities didn't find any suspicious devices inside Walmart and the phone call warning of a bomb was unfounded, Anderson police spokesman Nathan Ramirez said.
"No devices were located and nothing seemed out of place at the business," police said in a statement.
It was the second bomb threat at the store in five months
A criminal investigation has been opened into the incident. Anyone with information about the hoax is asked to call police at (530) 245-6526.
A bomb scare at the same Walmart store in late May also was deemed bogus. At this point, Ramirez said: "We don't have any reason to believe" that the two incidents are related.
A man called Walmart at 6:36 p.m. Friday, saying there was a bomb inside the store, police said. A Walmart manager contacted authorities and officers immediately evacuated workers and shoppers while a bomb sweep was conducted.
At least 25 Walmart employees who had been told to leave the store were standing in the parking lot shortly after 7 p.m. They were told to go to a nearby ARCO gas station.
The store reopened to employees and customers about 9 p.m., after the store was determined to be safe, said police.
