UPDATE: 11:59 p.m. Friday
Police have determined there were no suspicious devices in the Anderson Walmart store and that Friday's report that a bomb was inside the retailer was "unfounded," said Anderson Police Department spokesman Nathan Ramirez.
A criminal investigation has been opened into Friday's incident. Any members of the public with information should call 530-245-6526.
A bomb scare at the same Walmart store in late May was deemed a hoax. At this point Ramirez said, "We don't have any reason to believe" that the two incidents are related.
Anderson police got a call from Walmart management about 6:36 p.m. on Friday, saying they believed there was a bomb inside the store. Officers evacuated workers and shoppers and conducted a bomb sweep of the premises.
No one was hurt in the incident and the store reopened to employees and customers about 9 p.m., after the store was determined to be safe, said police.
