
Walmart employees in Alabama enjoyed more money on this week's paychecks.
More than 915,000 hourly Walmart employees in the U.S. received some $200 million in cash bonuses based on their stores performance in the second quarter of the fiscal year, the company announced.
Alabama employee's portion of the bonuses totaled $5.4 million.
"Our associates across Alabama display great dedication to our customers and the company each and every day," said Annemarie Browning, Regional General Manager, Walmart. "Their hard work and commitment to saving customers' time and money greatly contributed to repeat trips and increased sales, and we are proud to award our associates more than $5.4 million in bonuses across the state."
The bonuses were included on employees' Sept. 6 paychecks.
Walmart employees earned quarterly bonuses based on their stores' performance in achieving sales and customer service goals. The nation's largest retailer said it has seen its best performance in more than 10 years with an increase in comp sales and customer traffic.
According to company statistics, Walmart has 38,366 employees in Alabama with an average pay of $13.90 per hour.
Earlier this year, Walmart announced plans to increase the starting wage for all hourly associates in the U.S. to at least $11, expand maternity and parental leave benefits, and provide a one-time cash bonus for eligible associates of up to $1,000.
