Walmart stores are open Memorial Day on Monday, May 28, 2018, which is a federal holiday.

As for store hours, most of the Walmarts we checked were sticking to their 7 a.m. (EST) through midnight hours. The stores that normally are open 24 hours a day also are sticking to those hours, according to store websites.

The only major holiday that Walmart closes is Christmas, though the retailer also limits its hours on Thanksgiving, New Year's Day and Easter.

Still, it's always a good idea to call and check your local Walmart for hours before heading out, especially if you're making a last-minute dash for party supplies for a Memorial Day weekend barbecue.

The Walmart grocery circular this week (it runs through June 1) is loaded with Memorial Day weekend sale specials with an emphasis on backyard barbecue items. A 4-pound pack of Angus burgers is on sale for $16.82 and a 16-ounce container of fresh strawberries will run you $1.97.

On the other side of the store, there are still plenty of deals on everything including: a 10-foot-by-10-foot Ozark Trail pop up shade tent for $79, a 10-foot kiddie pool for $44 and a 2-gallon glass drink dispenser for $12.94.
